ProTaxi Launches Electric Ride-Hailing Service in Abuja, Targets 1,000 Drivers

A Nigerian transportation technology company, ProTaxi, has officially launched its electric vehicle ride-hailing service in Abuja, introducing a new mobility option designed to provide affordable transportation while creating employment opportunities for drivers.

The platform, developed by PromiseLand Innovation, commenced operations in the Federal Capital Territory on October 1, 2026, with plans to expand its services to other Nigerian states.

The initiative combines electric-powered transportation with a driver empowerment programme aimed at helping individuals generate sustainable income and improve their families’ living conditions.

ProTaxi Plans to Empower 1,000 Drivers with Electric Vehicles

Speaking during the official launch in Abuja, Chief Executive Officer of PromiseLand Innovation, Ambassador Emmanuel Lawrence Oloche, explained that ProTaxi was established to address transportation challenges while creating economic opportunities.

The company had earlier announced plans to onboard 1,000 drivers through an electric vehicle programme designed to help participants earn a living.

Oloche said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to using technology and innovation to improve people’s financial circumstances.

According to him, the company wants to create an environment where individuals can access opportunities capable of transforming their livelihoods.

He explained that every successful ride could contribute to a driver’s ability to provide essential needs, including accommodation, education and household expenses.

The CEO maintained that ProTaxi was developed not merely as another transportation application but as a business model intended to support families and strengthen communities.

Electric Vehicles Offer New Transportation Option in Abuja

ProTaxi’s entry into the Abuja transportation market introduces an electric mobility option for commuters who rely on ride-hailing services for their daily movements.

Unlike conventional vehicles powered by petrol or diesel, electric vehicles operate using rechargeable batteries.

The technology offers potential benefits such as reduced tailpipe emissions and lower vehicle energy and maintenance costs, although actual operating expenses depend on electricity prices, charging infrastructure and vehicle usage.

Oloche said affordability remains one of the company’s objectives as it seeks to make transportation more accessible to Nigerians.

The platform’s introduction also comes amid growing interest in alternative transportation technologies and efforts to reduce dependence on petrol-powered vehicles.

Presidency Welcomes ProTaxi Electric Mobility Initiative

The launch attracted government representatives, business stakeholders and other guests interested in the company’s transportation and employment programme.

Prince Adetokunbo Ademola Ade-John, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Transportation and Mobility, commended PromiseLand Innovation for introducing the service.

Ade-John said the project aligned with the federal government’s vision for improving transportation and mobility across Nigeria.

He also praised Oloche for investing in a technology-driven initiative that could contribute to the development of the transportation sector.

PromiseLand Innovation Announces Expansion Plans

Beyond Abuja, PromiseLand Innovation intends to introduce ProTaxi services in additional Nigerian states.

Gift Emmanuel, Executive Director of PromiseLand Estate, confirmed that the company’s broader objective was to extend the benefits of the initiative to more communities.

She explained that the project was designed to support ordinary Nigerians by providing transportation services alongside income-generating opportunities.

Oloche also outlined the company’s long-term ambition to establish an African technology business capable of competing internationally.

He said the organisation intends to develop solutions that improve everyday living while creating economic opportunities for individuals and families.

ProTaxi Enters Nigeria’s Growing Ride-Hailing Market

With operations now underway in Abuja, ProTaxi joins Nigeria’s developing ride-hailing industry, where transportation companies continue to explore technology-based services.

The company’s proposed driver empowerment programme and use of electric vehicles distinguish its approach from traditional petrol-powered ride-hailing operations.

However, its long-term impact will depend on factors including passenger adoption, service reliability, charging infrastructure, competitive pricing and the successful implementation of its driver onboarding programme.

ProTaxi’s launch represents another private-sector effort to introduce alternative transportation solutions while supporting employment and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
