NIPR Urges Abuja Hotels to Meet Global Standards Ahead of World PR Forum 2026

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has called on hotel owners and hospitality operators in Abuja to improve their services ahead of the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), which Nigeria is preparing to host.

The institute said the international gathering presents an opportunity to promote Nigeria’s image, attract global attention and demonstrate the country’s capacity to host major professional events.

NIPR President, Dr Ike Neliaku, made the appeal during a meeting with hotel managers in the Federal Capital Territory, where he emphasised the importance of quality accommodation, professional service delivery and Nigeria’s tradition of welcoming visitors.

Abuja Hotels Tasked with Improving Hospitality Services

Speaking at the engagement, Neliaku explained that the success of the World Public Relations Forum would extend beyond conference activities and official presentations.

According to him, the experiences of international delegates at hotels, restaurants and other hospitality establishments could significantly influence their impressions of Nigeria.

He urged hotel operators to provide services that meet international expectations while preserving the warmth, generosity and cultural identity associated with Nigerian hospitality.

Neliaku stressed that visitors should leave the country with positive personal experiences capable of challenging negative perceptions about Nigeria.

He also encouraged hospitality businesses to consider their role in promoting the country’s reputation through professionalism and quality customer service.

World Public Relations Forum Offers Nigeria Global Exposure

The NIPR president described the 2026 forum as an important national undertaking requiring cooperation between government institutions, professional organisations and private businesses.

He explained that the event would bring together public relations practitioners, communication experts and influential professionals from different countries.

Their experiences during the gathering, he said, could influence how Nigeria is discussed and presented to international audiences.

Neliaku added that the institute was working to deliver an edition of the forum that would stand out in the history of the international event.

Beyond conventional conference sessions, organisers are planning additional programmes designed to encourage broader discussions on communication, information management and international cooperation.

African Information Ministers Expected for Special Roundtable

As part of preparations, NIPR has outlined plans for a roundtable involving African ministers responsible for information and communication.

The programme is expected to provide an opportunity for policymakers to discuss issues affecting information sharing, public communication and Africa’s representation internationally.

Organisers are also proposing a global information summit to expand professional discussions beyond the traditional public relations conference format.

These activities form part of NIPR’s ambition to make the event relevant to governments, businesses, communication professionals and other stakeholders.

NIPR Reveals How Nigeria Secured Hosting Rights

Neliaku also reflected on the process through which Nigeria emerged as host of the 2026 World Public Relations Forum.

He said the country’s bid encountered opposition during the selection process but eventually gained wider support after being presented as an opportunity for Africa.

According to his account, Nigeria secured 17 votes, while four members abstained and one voted for the competing country.

He maintained that the hosting opportunity was a significant achievement that should encourage stakeholders to work together towards a successful event.

NIPR FCT Chapter Seeks Support from Hotel Operators

Chairman of the NIPR Federal Capital Territory Chapter, Stanley Ogadigo, also encouraged hotel managers to take preparations seriously.

Ogadigo explained that the meeting was organised to help hospitality businesses understand the expectations of international visitors and identify areas where improvements may be necessary.

He stressed that hotels would play a central role in shaping delegates’ experiences throughout their stay in Abuja.

According to him, combining modern hospitality practices with Nigeria’s welcoming culture would help create a memorable experience for participants.

He called on operators to support the event as an opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s international reputation.

Abuja Hospitality Sector Could Benefit from Global Forum

Hosting the World Public Relations Forum could also create business opportunities for Abuja’s hospitality and service industries.

Hotels, restaurants, transport providers, event planners and other businesses may benefit from increased demand associated with international visitors.

Beyond immediate commercial activities, a successful event could reinforce Abuja’s position as a destination for international conferences and professional gatherings.

With preparations continuing, NIPR is encouraging stakeholders across the hospitality sector to contribute towards delivering a forum that presents Nigeria positively to the world.
