Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed food items to more than 1,500 vulnerable residents of Kpaduma II community in Abuja as part of its efforts to ease the rising cost of feeding among low-income households.
The outreach, carried out under the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, provided beneficiaries with food packages containing enough supplies to prepare meals for a family of at least five people.
The intervention forms part of the bank’s ongoing corporate social responsibility programme aimed at supporting disadvantaged communities and addressing food insecurity across Nigeria.
Why Fidelity Bank Selected Kpaduma II Community
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Fidelity Bank’s Divisional Head of Brand and Communications, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, explained that the community was selected because many residents continue to face economic difficulties despite living within the Federal Capital Territory.
Nwagboh said access to adequate food remains a major concern for struggling families, making interventions of this nature necessary.
According to him, providing food assistance allows beneficiaries to concentrate on other important aspects of their lives, including education, employment and improving their livelihoods.
He emphasised that the programme was not solely about distributing food but also about giving residents encouragement during challenging economic conditions.
Fidelity Food Bank Reaches Over 300 Nigerian Communities
Nwagboh disclosed that the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, introduced in April 2023, has extended assistance to more than 300 communities nationwide.
Among the locations previously covered are Mararaba and Mabushi, alongside several other communities across the country.
He added that Fidelity Bank intends to expand the programme into additional states and communities to reach more families requiring support.
The bank’s Regional Bank Head for Abuja III, Martin Ayodele, also highlighted the importance of supporting the communities where financial institutions operate.
Ayodele explained that sustainable economic development depends partly on the welfare of residents, stressing that the bank considers community support an important aspect of its operations.
Abbasid Foundation Partners Fidelity Bank on Food Distribution
The Abuja food outreach was organised in collaboration with the Abbasid Foundation, a humanitarian organisation involved in providing assistance to disadvantaged communities.
The foundation’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, Hajia Hauwa Abbas, disclosed that the partnership had supported food distribution programmes in different parts of Nigeria.
She identified Benue, Sokoto, Yobe and the Federal Capital Territory as some of the areas where the organisations had carried out interventions.
The collaboration, according to the organisers, is intended to improve access to essential food supplies among households experiencing financial hardship.
Kpaduma II Residents Appreciate Food Assistance
Community leaders and beneficiaries welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely support for families struggling to meet their daily feeding needs.
The Chief of Kpaduma II, Samson Auta, expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank and its partners for selecting the community.
Auta said the assistance would help reduce the immediate financial pressure on affected households and expressed hope that similar programmes would continue.
Two beneficiaries, Rose Isa and Helen John, also thanked the organisers, explaining that the food supplies would help them provide meals for their families.
Fidelity Bank Reaffirms Commitment to Community Development
The food distribution in Kpaduma II adds to Fidelity Bank’s existing social intervention programmes focused on improving living conditions across Nigeria.
Through its Food Bank Initiative, the financial institution has continued to work with humanitarian organisations and community representatives to identify locations where assistance is needed.
The bank says it remains committed to extending the programme to underserved communities while supporting efforts to improve household welfare and food security.
